8 Bike Rack Assembly and Use Guide
Proper assembly and use are important when transporting bicycles with your Drayton Solutions 8-Bike Heavy-Duty Bike Rack. Before installing the rack on your vehicle or loading bicycles, read the official Assembly & Use Instructions provided by Drayton Solutions. The official instructions should be your primary reference for assembling, installing, loading, securing, adjusting, and using the rack. Keep them available whenever you need to reinstall the rack, review its operation, or prepare it for another trip.
Before You Assemble Your Bike Rack
The Drayton Solutions bike rack includes the Vertical Bar, Bottom Bar, Receiver Bar / Bottom Hinge Bracket, Top Bar, and hardware.
The following tools are required for assembly:
Two 9/16-inch wrenches
One 1/2-inch wrench
One 3/16-inch Allen wrench
Before beginning assembly, confirm that you have the necessary rack components, hardware, and tools. Read the official instructions completely and follow the supplied assembly guidance for the correct positioning and connection of each component.
Check Your Vehicle and Hitch
The 8-Bike Rack is designed for vehicles equipped with a 2-inch hitch receiver and attaches to most Class III and higher 2-inch receiver hitches.
The rack itself weighs approximately 50 pounds and can carry up to 250 pounds of combined bicycle weight. Because vehicles and hitch configurations vary, check the applicable vehicle and hitch requirements before installing or loading the rack.
Loading and Securing Your Bikes
The rack is designed to carry anywhere from one to eight bicycles. Three adjustment holes in the bottom bar help accommodate different bicycle sizes, including combinations of adult and children’s bikes.
A rubber anti-abrasion strip covers the top bar to help protect bicycle rims from chafing. The lower wheel rest also includes eyebolts for securing bicycles with a 1-inch ratchet strap.
Always follow the official Assembly & Use Instructions when positioning and securing your bicycles. Do not use the rack if required components or securing measures identified in the instructions are missing.
Using the Fold-Down Feature
The rack can fold down when bicycles are not loaded, providing easier access to the rear of the vehicle. This can make it more convenient to reach a rear hatch or cargo area without completely removing the rack.
Refer to the official instructions before using the fold-down feature to ensure the rack is positioned and operated as intended.
Before Traveling With Your Bikes
Before each trip, follow the inspection, loading, and securing guidance provided in the official Assembly & Use Instructions. Pay particular attention to the rack installation, hitch connection, bicycle positioning, and required securing components.
Do not exceed the rack's maximum combined bicycle weight capacity of 250 pounds.
The rack may not be suitable for carbon fiber or electric bicycles. Review the Warranty page for important limitations, exclusions, and proper-use requirements related to these bicycles and the rack.
